Minnetonka Theatre Announces 2021 Winter Plays

Minnetonka Theatre is excited to announce two winter plays for 2021! Blithe Spirit,Noël Coward's brilliantly funny farce, and Subject to Change, an original world premiere one act, will begin streaming on the theater's website on March 20.

Artistic Director Trent Boyum said, "In this challenging time of isolation, we were determined to give our students a safe way to participate in the top-notch productions Minnetonka Theatre is known for. So, instead of presenting our annual winter plays in person, we have produced two filmed performances that will stream in March."

To celebrate the openings, Minnetonka Theatre will live stream a Red Carpet Premiere Party from the Minnetonka High School Arts Center on 7. Boyum added, "The kids will be dressed up, and we'll have live interviews with the casts and crews. It will be a special night for our students, and a great way for families and patrons celebrate their hard work. Don't miss this free event. It'll be a blast!"

About the Plays

Noel Coward wrote Blithe Spirit, a satirical comedy about ghosts, in five days in 1941, while German bombs fell on England. The smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages, offers up fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine, re-married but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira who is called up by a visiting "happy medium," one Madame Arcati. This improbable farce, directed by James Cada, is guaranteed to entertain patrons of all ages.

With the help of Director, Lauren Bartelt, and guest playwright Christine Heesun Hwang, our students developed a series of short scenes and monologues on grappling with an ever-shifting landscape, resulting in a delightful, 35-minute meditation on how we deal with uncertainty and the lessons we learn along the way, titled Subject to Change.
