Les arts plastiques à l'école primaire

Arts visuels

In Minnetonka’s elementary art classrooms, imagination becomes something students can see, shape and share. Through creative play, exploration and hands-on projects, children discover new ways to express themselves and connect with the world around them.

Every elementary student receives visual art instruction once per six-day cycle. Studio experiences encourage students to ask questions, solve problems and think creatively while exploring a variety of tools, materials and technology.

Our visual arts program builds four essential skills:

  • Creating: Turning ideas into original works of art.
  • Responding: Looking closely at art and discussing ideas, meaning and artistic choices.
  • Connecting: Exploring how art reflects and shapes our lives, cultures and communities.
  • Presenting: Sharing artwork with an audience and celebrating creative expression.

Musique

Music gives children a joyful way to express themselves, build confidence and create something together. From their first classroom songs to exploring an instrument or singing in an ensemble, Minnetonka students develop skills that can inspire a lifelong love of music.

Kindergarten–Grade 4
Students learn with a licensed general music teacher twice per six-day cycle. Through singing, playing instruments, listening, moving, composing and improvising, children build their understanding of rhythm, melody and musical notation.

Beginning in fourth grade, students can also take free string instrument lessons with licensed instrumental music teachers.

Grade 5
In fifth grade, students choose a musical pathway that reflects their interests: choir, orchestra, band or general music. Each option helps students deepen their skills, explore their musical voice and experience the satisfaction of making music with others.

Students receive large-group instruction twice per six-day cycle with a licensed music teacher. Those who choose band or orchestra also receive one small-group instrument lesson per six-day cycle for more focused instruction.

Find Your Voice in the District Choir
A love of singing can be the start of something wonderful. Minnetonka’s District Choir gives students in grades 3-6 an opportunity to grow as musicians, build confidence and experience the joy of making music together. It’s a place to share their voices, make connections and be part of something special.
